Your Inner MP3

headphonesWe are human.  Occasionally we make decisions, say things, do things, fail to do things or just plain old screw something up.

When this happens, what do you do?  Do you give yourself a good “talking to”?

I’ve done it sometimes and I’m guessing you have to.  That conversation may go something like this…

Wow, that was dumb!  Why didn’t you think that through more carefully?  Are you really that stupid?   What is wrong with you?   You’re never going to reach that goal!  You’re not good enough!

For whatever reason, many of us seem to think that beating ourselves up over our mistakes will somehow bring about an improvement.

The flaw in this thinking is that when we are berating ourselves, we are talking to our subconscious mind.  The subconscious mind is like an MP3 recorder/player that records and then loops the same tracks over and over again throughout each day.

What happens when you record something as an MP3 file?  If you record a song by Maroon5, when you push “play” does it play back a song by Taylor Swift?

When you verbally beat up on yourself, you are filling your inner MP3 player with sabotaging thoughts that cycle in the background. These ideas impact every area of your life, making it more difficult for you to achieve your financial, health, relationship, career or spiritual goals.

Everyone makes mistakes.   The next time you mess up, remember to use your inner MP3 to record a dialogue that is forgiving and inspires you to forge ahead.
