Do you see life in black and white

Life Is Not Black & White

Do you see life in black and white? Or, have you noticed that our world is full of brilliant color?   I think it’s a great metaphor for relationships and life itself.  Very few life experiences are black and white.  In fact, most aspects of life are a bit messy and not within our control.  One could even call those situations “colorful”.   But, that doesn’t stop most of us from trying to make every life experience fit in a neat little box of right or wrong, positive or negative, possible or impossible.  It’s a control thing, an attempt to make ourselves feel there is order to everything.  But, at best, it is a false sense of control.

There are many real-life stories of people who have overcome the odds.  Some became financially strong late in life, found love after multiple failed relationships or regained their health when they were told by the “experts” that they were going to die soon.  I think you’ll find, that the people who have triumphed over adversity and beat the odds, were open-minded and maintained a firm, unshakable belief that whatever happened, they would be okay. They were able to shut out not only the noise of the critics outside themselves, but the critic within as well.  They looked for a different way to do what others told them couldn’t be done.

Keep Your Mind Open To Possibilities

We must learn to be aware of the messages we send ourselves and each other.  It is imperative that we keep our minds open to all possibilities.  There are unlimited avenues available to us when it comes to accumulating wealth, getting healthy, finding a life partner, raising our children, creating the perfect work for ourselves, etc…

Yet, how many times have you heard someone say that they can’t find work or start a new career because they are too old?  If this is you, maybe the employers you have approached, do not recognize all the advantages that come with hiring experienced people for their organization.  Or, maybe the door that just got slammed in your face is a message that you are meant to follow a different path.  Maybe that “no” is  telling you to start that business you’ve been dreaming about or look for work in a completely different industry.  The same principle can be applied to anything you want to do.

Stop Arguing For Your Limitations

We have to stop arguing for the limitations we perceive in ourselves and others.  Just because it’s never been done before, does not mean it cannot be done!

The next time you catch yourself arguing for all the reasons why you can’t do something, stop.  Remember that believing you can is more than half the battle.  If you are feeling fearful, that is a good sign that you are headed toward something that is going to bring growth.

When you know what you want to do and believe you can do it, the how will usually present itself to you.  Is your mind open enough to receive the answer?
